Harold Smith

Harold R. Smith, age 76, passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2008, at his home in Brainerd. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Monday, November 3, at the Church of the Nazarene in Brainerd. Friends may call for one hour prior to services at the Church on Monday. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Brainerd.
Harold Richard Smith was born on November 2, 1931, in Pontiac, MI, the son of the late Adolph and Blanche (Briggs) Smith. He moved with his family to the Brainerd Lakes Area at an early age. He was united in marriage to Donna (Whitted) on December 19, 1954 in Brainerd. He then worked for Northwest Paper Company in Brainerd beginning in 1948 retiring as the manager of Manufacturing for Potlatch. He served in the 11th Army Airborne. He was a member of the Shriners, and lifetime member of the American Legion.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Blanche; brother, Clinton and twin brother Robert, and an infant sister, Evelyn. He will be lovingly missed by his wife, Donna; children, Karen (Gary) Taverna of Plymouth and Brian (Rhonda) Smith of Brainerd; 4 grandchildren, Brandon Smith of St Paul, Britni Smith of Brainerd and Tyler and Andrew Taverna of Plymouth; siblings, Rosella (Rod) Hanson of Brainerd, Betty (Don ) Olson of Baxter, Mardy Peterson of Long Prairie, Marilyn (Elmer) Schmidt of Swanville, Ilene (Ron) Engdahl of Baxter, Doris Carter of Baxter, and Dottie (Lee) Angier of Brainerd, sister-in-law Karyl Smith, wife of twin brother Robert, of Brainerd; brother and sister in law; Alan & Barb Whitted of Texas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Shriners Children Hospital.
