Harold Oanes Jr.

Harold J. Oanes Jr. 82, of Baxter died at his home on Monday, April 23, 2012. Funeral Services for Harold will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, April 27, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd with Pastor Dave Holte officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Interment at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls, MN.

Harold was born on July 6, 1929 in St. Cloud, MN to Harold and Marie (Zemp) Oanes Sr. His birth was one of the first at the hospital. His family spent his early years in the Sartell area before moving to St. Paul where he graduated from high school. Harold enlisted in the US Air Force where he spent 20 years before retiring.During his service time he was a flight line supervisor for F4 and F11 airplanes. Harold was most proud of the support his unit was able to provide during the Vietnam Conflict. Harold and Bonnie Frydenlund were married on April 25, 1957 in North Dakota, while he was in the Air Force. Harold's family lived in Japan for a time while he was in the South Pacific.

After retiring from the Air Force in 1972, the family lived in the twin cities area where Harold worked for Control Data (Nortel). In 2003 Harold and Bonnie moved to Baxter to be closer to their family and their grandchildren. Harold loved to fish at the family cabin near Pine River and Hand Lake. He also enjoyed snowmobiling and spending time as a volunteer at St. Joseph's Hospital.

Harold is survived by his wife of 55 years, Bonnie; children, Cindy Whitcomb, Keith (Patty) Oanes, and Eric (Jill) Oanes; grandchildren, Ryan (Stephanie), Missy (Chad), Nathan, and Joselyn; great-grandchildren, Nicky, Devin, and Ryan; brothers, Kenny (Inez), Gerald (Pat), and Steve (Gloria); sisters, Virginia (Bud) Lund and Darlene Lyman; and many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
