Harlen "Spike" Britton, 92, of Brainerd, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Good Samaritan Village - Bethany. A gathering for family and friends is scheduled for Sunday, March 13 from 1:00 - 3:00 PM at the Oak Lawn Town Hall.
Harlen was born July 27, 1918, in Vineland, MN, the son of Henry and Lillie (Hoskins) Britton. Early in his life, Harlen and his family moved to the Brainerd Lakes Area. Harlen was united in marriage to Alvina Palmer on June 30, 1943. Harlen logged before working most of his life at Potlatch where he retired from the shipping department. Harlen enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing and smoking fish. He also liked to garden and woodworking.
He will be missed by his wife of 67 years, Alvina; his children, LeRoy (Barb), of Brainerd, Wayne, of St. Paul, Roger (Lorna), of Brainerd, Karen (Robert) Woods, of Brainerd, Loretta (John) Gelling, of Hoffman, Helen (Jim) Murray, of Brainerd, and Roxanne (Roy Sweet) Britton, of Brainerd; sisters, Rachel (Harvey) Wing, of Brainerd and Agnes (Walter) Hines, of Brainerd; 23 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son; parents; granddaughter; great-grandson; five brothers; and two sisters.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
