Gregory Hellie

J. Gregory Hellie, age 65, of Breezy Point, died early Tuesday morning at the St. Cloud Hospital. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Friday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes with the Reverend Dr. Harry E. Olson, Jr. officiating. Friends may call from 5:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter and for one hour prior to Services at the Church on Friday. Private interment will be at a later date. Joseph Gregory Hellie was born on July 27, 1939, in Rochester, MN, the son of Joseph C. and Ruby (Gregory) Hellie. He was called from this life early Tuesday morning at the St. Cloud Hospital, attaining the age of 65 years, 11 months, and 1 day.
Greg grew up in Morton, MN, and graduated from Morton High School in 1957. After high school he went on to St. Olaf College receiving his Bachelors Degree in 1961. On August 26, 1961 he was united in marriage to Janice Nelson in St. Luke?s Lutheran Church at Franklin, MN. To this union 2 children, Kristin and Joseph were born. He then went to work for Westbrook Public Schools for 5 years before enrolling in the University of Minnesota to complete his Masters Degree. After receiving his Masters in 1967 he began working for the Roseville Area High Schools as an assistant Principal. In 1996 he retired and moved to the Breezy Point area. Greg and Janice were able to share almost 38 years of marriage together before she died on August 2, 1999. On January 3, 2004, he was united in marriage to Gwendolen Brickell in Fullerton, CA. While living in Pequot Lakes Greg was actively involved in both his church and community. He loved to visit with people and was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, the Pelican Lake Conservation Club, the Pequot Lakes Lions and the Sons of Norway. Golfing, fishing, traveling around the world and being with his grandchildren were some of the things Greg enjoyed the most.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph C. and Ruby, and his first wife, Janice. He is mourned in passing by his wife, Gwendolen; children, Kristin (Paul) Vogel of Mankato, MN and Joseph (Amy) Hellie of Sartell, MN; grandchildren, Joseph and Michael Vogel and Jack and Kate Hellie; and 2 brothers, Charles (Anita) Hellie of Sauk Centre, MN and John (Karen) Hellie of Pierz, MN.
