Grant Johnson

Grant W. Johnson, 84, of Pillager, MN passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, April 4, 2017. Funeral Services for Grant will be held on Monday, April 10, 2017 at 11:00AM at First Lutheran Church in Pillager, MN with Pastor Hector Merced officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00AM at the church before services on Monday.

Grant was born on August 30, 1932 in Crosby, MN to John and Eva (Sanderson) Johnson. He graduated from Crosby Ironton High School in 1950. Grant enlisted in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He married Judith Gerrels in 1960 in Pillager, MN. Grant worked for Inland Steel and Hannah Mining Company in Crosby and Michigan. He and Judith operated the Trolley Drive-In in Deerwood. Grant also worked for the Crosby Ironton School District. Grant farmed on the family farm. His hobbies included dancing, playing cards, and listening to gospel CDs.Grant enjoyed watching his kids play sports and watching Crosby Ironton School activities.

Grant is survived by his children; Shawna Ellingsen and (Milo) of Pillager, MN and Shayne (Louise) Johnson of Aitkin, MN; grandchildren, Aaron (Tomi) Johnson, Amy (Dustin) Kremer, Ethan (Kaycia) Ellingsen, and Adam Ellingsen; six great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Linda Hanson, James Johnson, Scott Johnson, and Kay Jarvela; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 52 years, Judie; brother, Jack; and foster son, Bill Connor. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN.
