Glynn T. Kaste, age 84, of Staples, passed away at the St. Cloud Hospital on Monday, August 13. Services will be held on Friday, August 17, at 11:00 AM, at the Faith Lutheran Church in Staples. Visitation will be Thursday evening, from 5-7, at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples, with a prayer service at 6:30, and one hour prior to the service, at the church. Burial will be at the Evergreen Hill Cemetery, in Staples.
Glynn Thomas Kaste was born on May 23, 1928, in Gwinner, ND, to Adolf and Louise (Longbella) Kaste. He graduated from Henning High School in 1946. He was united in marriage to Delores Moen, of Henning, on December 22, 1948, in East Grand Forks.
Glynn was hires as a fireman on the Northern Pacific Railroad. He was drafted into the Army in 1952, and spent one year in Korea, with the 724 Transportation Railway Battalion. In 1955, the family moved to Staples. He was promoted to an Engineer in 1957. He held this job until his retirement in 1990, with 39 years of service. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen & Enginemen (BLF&E), a life member of the United Transportation Union, and was local chairman for the UTU for 17 years. He was a 23 year member of the Staples Fire Department. When he retired, he started doing volunteer work for the Staples Food Shelf and served on the board of directors. He was a member of the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees (NARVRE) Unit 127 out of Brainerd. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. He was a devoted husband and a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and helping others.
Glynn is survived by his wife of 63 years, Delores; two sons, Stan Kaste of Staples, and Rick (Patty) Kaste of Cloverdale, IN; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter-in-law, Theresa Kaste.
