Glen DeGeest

Glen C. DeGeest age 92 of Motley passed away Thursday at the Staples Care Center. A Funeral Service has been schedules for Monday August 22nd at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Staples. A visitation will be held Sunday evening from 5-8 PM at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples. Burial will be at Evergreen Hill Cemetery.
Glen was born on October 15th, 1912 to Levi and Susan (McCombs) DeGeest in Marion County, Iowa. He grew up in Iowa before moving to the Staples- Motley area in 1929 where he started farming. On April 20, 1938 He married Alma Junker in Staples. They raised their children on their farm which Glen worked until the age of 80. Never on e to slow down he also drove school bus for some 14 years. He was an active member of his church, serving as an Elder and enjoyed playing Dart-Ball. He was an avid harmonica played and liked to fish and travel.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Janet, brothers Emmet, Melvin, and Everett, and a sister Bertha Truesdell. He is survived by his wife of 67 years Alma, two daughters Alice (Lloyd) Beckmenn, and Glenda (John) Betts, seven grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, a brother Joseph (Louise), a sister Mary (Paul) Beers, a sister in law Eleanor DeGeest-Hellevang, and many nieces and nephews.
