Gladys Saterbak, age 94, of Motley, passed away on Thursday, August 6, in Bemidji. A funeral service is planned for Tuesday, August 10, at 11:00 am at Faith Lutheran Church in Staples with Pastor Steve Sveom officiating. Visitation will be Monday evening from 5-7:30 at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Eids Cemetery in Ortonville.
Gladys was born on January 11, 1915, in Cavite, SD, to Ole and Julia (Hagenson) Helgeson. Her family moved to Ortonville in March of 1920. She grew up and attended school there. While working at the Corner Café, Gladys met James Saterbak. The two were married on October 6, 1940. They traveled quite a bit, until settling in Moundsview, MN in 1952. In 1981 they retired to Lake Shamineau. Jim passed away shortly thereafter. After Jims passing, Gladys remained at the lake, thanks in part to some very wonderful neighbors. She enjoyed bird watching, gardening, canning, making jellies, nature, traveling, and being at the lake. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and the Lincoln Ladies Aid.
Gladys is survived by her children, Roger (Vickie) Saterbak of Brainerd and Mari Jo (Don) Kirchner of Bemidji; grandchildren, Brian Saterbak and Kelly (Chris) Sprague; great-granddaughter, Isabella Sprague; step grandchildren, Deawn Trapp and Shawn Norenberg; step great-grandchildren, Jordan Cross, Bailey, Riley, and Jesse Trapp, Kendall and Cameron Norenberg; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, James; her parents; brothers, Helmer, Elmer, Herman, Adolph, and Clarence; and sisters, May, Clara, Gena, and Anna.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples.
