Gilbert R. Grossman, 94, of Baxter, died at his home Monday, May 29, 2017. Services for Gib will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, June 2, 2017 at First Lutheran Church in Brainerd with Pastor John Stiles officiating. Family and friends are welcome to gather one hour prior to services. Interment with Military Honors will be held at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Camp Ripley.
Gib was born October 2, 1922, in St. Paul, the son of Harry A. and Clara (Nelson) Grossman. He was Valedictorian of his class when he graduated from Harding High School in St. Paul. He enlisted in the US Army and served in Normandy and Central Europe during WWII. In 1948, he married Bettie Tucker. The couple made their home in the St. Paul area where Gib worked for St. Paul Companies his entire career – starting in the mail room and retiring as an Officer. They moved to Longville to enjoy retirement and later settled in Baxter.
Gib enjoyed the outdoors, especially gardening. He was a diehard Minnesota sports fan his entire life and enjoyed the gift of music. He was active at The Center (Brainerd Lakes Area Senior Center) and Bible Study at First Lutheran Church.
He will be missed by his children, Jim (Priscilla) Grossman, of Green Valley, AZ, Patti (Joe) Cloutier, of Baxter, and Christine Grossman, of Baxter; brother, Dick (Kathy) Grossman; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bettie; parents; daughter-in-law, Linda; and brother, Ken.
