Geraldine Simon

February 9, 1930 — May 2, 2013

Geraldine (Geri) Simon, age 83, of Staples, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at the Lakewood Health System Care Center in Staples. Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, May 6, 2013 at Faith Lutheran Church in Staples with Pastor Stephen Sveom officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather Sunday afternoon from 3-5 PM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday morning. Interment will be at the Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples.

Geri was born February 9, 1930 in Wadena, the daughter of Olaf and Hazel (Holsapple) Haugen. She graduated from Staples High School in 1948, and was united in marriage to Gerald O. Simon on June 24, 1948. Jerry and Geri owned and operated a bakery in Lisbon, ND for many years before moving to Arizona. Geri enjoyed embroidery work and was famous for her dishtowels. She also enjoyed walking, baking cookies and most of all spending time with her family and friends, whom she dearly loved. Every Sunday she always looked forward to riding the "Lutefisk Express" with driver Huck Holst, and attending church services at Faith Lutheran Church in Staples.

Geri will be sadly missed by her daughter, Sheri (Wayne) Kimber of Hewitt; grandchildren, Shaun (Jessica) Kimber of Moorhead, Daniel (Amanda) Kimber of Bluffton, and Jeff Simon of Arizona; brother, Allen Haugen of Staples; sisters, Shirley (Jerry) Peterson of Fergus Falls, and Linda (Mike) Heier of Staples; 3 great-grandchildren, Brooke, Natalie and Ashtyn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; son, Jim; parents, Olaf and Hazel Haugen; and brother-in-law Jerry Peterson.
