Gerald F. Roscoe, age 88, of Rockton, IL, formerly of Staples, MN, passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2009, in Rockton, IL. Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM Monday, December 21, 2009, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples. Friends are welcome to gather beginning at 9:00 AM on Monday at the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Staples. Interment will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery at Staples.
Gerald Francis Roscoe was born on May 9, 1921, in Staples, MN, the son of Joseph and Blanche (Gorman) Roscoe. He always enjoyed music, even learning to play the accordion at age 4. During high school he was a member of the band and several other musical groups. Following his graduation from Staples High School he entered the Army Air Force serving from 1942 until 1946. While in the Service he was a member of the Army Air Force Band. On December 29, 1951, he was united in marriage to Shirley Grecula to this union four children were born. The couple moved to Illinois and he went to work for Rockford Products working there for 32 years. Shirley passed away on 12/16/1986. On May 12, 1995, he was united in marriage to Alice Lunceford. She passed away in May 2008. Gerald was a member of V.F.W. Post 1910 of Staples, and also the Disabled American Veterans. Among the things he enjoyed were hunting, fishing, animal and bird watching, all forms of music, especially playing his trombone.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Blanche; first wife Shirley in 1986, second wife Alice in 2008; brother, Raymond. Gerald will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his children, Steve (Lori) Roscoe, Andi (Ron) Hecker, Pat (Sally) Roscoe, and Richard Roscoe; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sisters, Eileen Avery and Norma (Merle) Montgomery; and many nieces and nephews.
