Gerald ?Gerry? Kringlie, 71, of Randall (formerly of Valley City, North Dakota) died Wednesday, July 16 in Brainerd as the result of a motor vehicle accident. Gerald Kringlie was born June 28, 1932 in Courtenay, North Dakota to Christian and Stella (Holmen) Kringlie. He grew up and attended school in Valley City. He was united in marriage to Shirley Rohde on November 8, 1952, in Valley City. He served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He completed a Master?s Degree in Education at North Dakota State University, and spent his career teaching PE and coaching. He coached football and basketball at several North Dakota schools, including Tower City, Northwood, Valley City State College, and Mayville State College. He retired from coaching in 1987 but continued to work in sales for the Chamber of Commerce in Bemidji. He was a skilled woodworker who particularly enjoyed creating furniture out of old wood he recovered from abandoned farmsteads. He enjoyed shopping for treasures at flea markets and garage sales and performing magic tricks for family and friends.
Gerry is survived by his wife Shirley; two daughters Genene (Wayne) Strack of Randall and Kathy (Seth) Reiner of Aurora, CO; a son Mickey Kringlie of Scottsdale, AZ; three sisters: Geraldine Engle of Fargo and Jean Busta and Kay Kringlie, both of Valley City; a brother Christian Kringlie of Fallon, NV; and six grandchildren: Sara Storbakken, Kathy, Rachel, Anna, and Rebecca Thurmer, and Jacob Reiner. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Marjorie Button, and three brothers: Philip, Jack, and Frank Kringlie.
Memorial services will be Sunday, July 20, 7:00 PM, at the Bethany Good Samaritan Chapel, with Reverend Lilja Behr officiating. Graveside services will be in Valley City, ND on Monday, July 21, at Memory Gardens, at 4:00 PM, with Reverend Ellen Arthur officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.
