Gerald Hurley

Gerald T. Hurley, age 81, from Pillager MN, went peacefully to be with the Lord, on Friday, April 22, 2011, at his home, the Riverside Assisted Living in Pillager. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 30, at 1:30 PM, at the United Methodist Church in Staples MN, Pastor Kathy Horn officiating. Burial will be at the Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples MN. Friends are invited to join us one hour prior to the services at the Church.

Gerald was born on November 8, 1929 in Lennox South Dakota to Thomas and Katherine (Jennings) Hurley. Gerald live in the Sioux Falls area most of his life until recently moving to central Minnesota to be closer to his children. Gerald retired after 39 ½ years as a baker for Metz Bakery company in Sioux Falls SD. Gerald, a gifted musician, invested much of his free time, including many of his early retired years, to playing a variety of musical instruments and singing music memories for residents at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home and other gatherings in Sioux Falls area. When Gerald was not bringing joy to others through his music, he enjoyed listening to the sounds of the big bands and old time classics.


Gerald is survived by his daughters, Diane (Mike) Waln of Elk River MN and Linda O'Gorman of San Francisco CA; a son, Mike (Jeannie) Hajek of Staples MN; 6 grandchildren; and 8 great - grandchildren.
