George "Ed" Edward Monk, 80, of Baxter, died September 9, 2008 at the St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd, MN. Services for Ed will be 3:30 PM, Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at First Baptist Church in Baxter with Reverend Gary Pederson officiating. Friends are welcome to gather after services at the Brenny Funeral Chapel Reception Room for a celebration of Ed's life.
Ed was born April 17, 1928 in Florence, AZ, the son of Walter E. and Bonnie Mayme (Ridgway) Monk. After attending high school, Ed enlisted in the Army Aircorp. He lived in Arizona and California earlier in his life before moving to the Pequot Lakes area in 1970. Ed relocated south again, before moving back to Brainerd in 1982. He worked construction for many years, but his true passion was music. He loved to play music and was the lead guitar for RSVP. He also liked to travel, make moccasins, roam the "great west", and research history.

Ed was a member of RSVP, Crow Wing County Muzzle Loaders (10 Time Past President), and the American Legion.

He will by missed by his wife, Donna; children, James Monk, of Phoenix, AZ, Michael Monk, of Chandler, AZ, Dave Monk, of Mesa, AZ, LeAnne Sporel, of Phoenix, AZ, Teri Thomas, of Wyoming, MN, Glen Grunewald, of Dundee, MN; Kari Barron, of Baxter, MN, and Kristy Farber, of Baxter, MN; stepson, Rick Herrel; 24 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Walter Monk, of CA, Ronnie Monk, of CA, Hank Monk, of CA, Hazel Cissney, of CA, Renee Modewell, of CA, and Walter Harry Monk, of CA.. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Shelly Monk; step-son, Donald Grunewald; and sister, Joyce Frederick.
