George Kight

September 30, 1927 — October 27, 2016

George F. Kight, age 89, of Hackensack, died peaceably on October 27, 2016, after battling cancer. He was born and raised in Minneapolis and graduated from Roosevelt High School. George was drafted into the U.S. Army in January of 1946 and served in Korea. He was honorably discharged in March of 1947 and returned home to complete his degree from the U of M. George married Marlene Beckstrom in May of 1952 and they raised four children together. He worked for the U.S. Postal service for 37 years and also with the Minnesota Twins organization for over 40 years. The Twins honored George with an award in his name - The George Kight Service Award. He purchased a lake home on Webb Lake near Hackensack where he was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting. He was a member of the American Legion of 59 years, serving most of those years with Post 202 in Hackensack.

George is survived by his children: Georgene Senkler, Wes Kight (Barb), Sue Peterson (Jeff), Kay Lego (Mike); 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 59 years, Marlene.

Services will be 11 AM on Tuesday, November 1, at Union Congregational Church, Hackensack. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial with military honors will be at Hillcrest Cemetery, Hackensack.
