George F. Fawcett, 98, of Duluth, formerly of Nisswa, died August 31, 2010 in Duluth, MN. Memorial services will be held at 11 AM, Monday, September 19, 2011 at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Little Falls. Military Honors will be provided by the Minnesota National Guard Honor Guard. A reception will follow at the Brenny Funeral Chapel Reception Room in Baxter.
George was born July 20, 1913 in Ocheyedan, IA. On October 8, 1940, he was united in marriage to Katherine McClain. The couple was married for 69 years before she passed away on September 10, 2008. George enlisted in the US Army in 1942 and served until February 8, 1946. When he returned home, George worked as a millwright in Duluth, MN. Following his retirement, George and Katherine resided in Nisswa, MN during the summer months and headed south to Misson, TX for the winter season. In 2009, George moved back to Duluth. He was a member of the American Legion and the Carpenters and Joiners Union. George enjoyed fishing for walleye.
He is survived by his brother, Wesley Fawcett and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine; his parents, George B. and Minnie Fawcett; sisters, Blanche, Ethel, and Wava; and brother, Lee.
