Services for George H. Carder, 91, of Hackensack, MN will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 31, 2009 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hackensack. Visitation will be on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. and one hour prior to the service Saturday, all at the church. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery at Hackensack. George passed away on January 26, 2009 at the Veterans Home in St. Cloud. Arrangements are through the Kline Funeral Home of Pine River, MN.
George H. Carder was born August 15, 1917 at Valley City, ND the son of Clinton and Zella (Williams) Carder. At age 6, he moved with his family to Hackensack where he attended high school. He attended barber school in Minneapolis and later worked as a barber and painted houses. He entered the US Army, serving during WWII. George married Gladys Hagen July 12, 1942 at Minneapolis. In 1945, the couple moved back to Hackensack where he continued working on the family's dairy farm. Later, he began working as a caretaker for the H. W. Sweatt estate. In 1961, George and his son, Jack started Carders' Earth Moving which is still in operation. George worked until his death.
George was a member of the Hackensack American Legion Post #202 and St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, raising horses, woodworking, tractors and machinery. George especially enjoyed visiting and loved kids and his family.
George is survived by his wife, Gladys of Hackensack; his two children, Judith "Judy" (Jeffrey) Clarine of Faribault, MN and Jack (Rosemarie) Carder of Hackensack; one brother, Richard (Ethelyn) Carder of Brainerd, MN and by five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Roger Carder; one brother, John Carder; and by two sisters, Edna Melby and Gladys VanBlaricom.
