George "Buck" William Abbott III, age 85, of Hackensack, MN, passed away, Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at St. Joseph's Medical Center, Brainerd, MN. Buck was born on July 20, 1931 in Joliet, IL, to George and Bernice (Pubentz) Abbott. He joined the Navy and was stationed in New Port, RI, from Feb. 1952 to Feb. 1956. He was united in marriage to Lucille Almo on August 9, 1952. Buck landscaped in Joliet, IL, and then moved to Hackensack, MN, in 1971. He ran the Standard Station in Hackensack, had a backhoe and hauling service and drove school bus before retiring.
He was a member of the Hackensack American Legion Post #202 and was also a volunteer fireman in Hackensack. Buck was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hackensack. He has 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Buck was affectionately called "tough grandpa" by his grandchildren and "more papa" by his great grandchildren.
Buck will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Lucille; his sister, Kathy (Charles) Green; daughters, Lorrie Ann (Charles) Lietz and 8 children, Luanne (Mike) Sycks and daughter, Mary Alice (Blake) Nordin and 2 children; son, Jerry (Annie Niewind) Abbott and 2 children. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother and one sister.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 29, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Hackensack. Visitation will be Thursday, from 5 to 7 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Hackensack and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will be 2 PM, Monday, August 1, in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls.
