Genevieve was born on September 16, 1921, in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of John and Eva (Corey) LaHood. She graduated from Thomas Edison High School in 1939, and married Edgar Guntzel in 1949. They had four children, and after raising her family, she continued her education and earned an Associate of Arts degree from Anoka Ramsey Jr. College in 1974 and a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Cloud State University in 1976. She went on to earn her real estate license.

Genevieve will be remembered for her love of music and her passion for learning. She was an accomplished pianist and singer. Always generous in sharing her knowledge of music with others, she encouraged both children and adults to learn music. She also enjoyed studying a broad array of subjects including elementary education, interior design, antiques, financial planning, the Arabic language, and the Bible. She spent many hours teaching English as a Second Language to the Hmong people, whom she loved, and who settled in the Minneapolis area. She was a gifted seamstress, taking great care with the detail of each garment she made. Genevieve was proud of her Lebanese heritage and loved the food, the music, the language, the dancing, and the culture. She will be tenderly missed by her extended family, friends, and the caring staff of Golden Horizons, where she spent her final years.
