Gene was born in Des Moines, IA on February 18, 1937, to Allan and Erma (Cooper) Clement. He graduated from Des Moines Technical High School in 1955 and Montana State College in 1960.
After graduating from college and starting his career, Gene in 1962 purchased a beautiful piece of property in the Crosslake, MN area, which would eventually become his family’s retirement home. He met Mary Moore in 1964 at Iowa Methodist Hospital where she was a student nurse and they were married on June 4, 1967, spending 57 memorable years together and raising their children. Gene enjoyed peaceful days out on the lake fishing with his children and grandchildren.
A HAM radio operator since age 14 when learning code was required, he enjoyed connecting with others around the globe. Wherever he had resided, the property was adorned with several antennas supporting the hobby. He also kept busy working on various projects, made possible by his adept mechanical and electrical skills.
Gene was a member of West Des Moines Christian Church, and the Crosslake Presbyterian Church, where he served as the financial secretary for many years.
Gene is survived by his wife Mary; son, Christopher (Lisa) of Clive, IA; grandchildren Quade and Quincey Keenan and Megan and Ryan Clement. He is also survived by step grandchildren Dr. Ali Keenan London (Dr. Dan), Liam and Charlie of Columbia, MO, and Logan (Annie) Keenan, Melanie and Lincoln of Windsor Hts. IA.
