Gary Thomas Schwartz, age 75, of Breezy Point, MN passed away on April 11, 2024, after a courageous 3-year battle with cancer. Gary was born on October 11, 1948, in South Minneapolis, Minnesota to Harold and Louise Schwartz. He had two brothers, Kenneth and Ronald. Gary met the love of his life Barbara Kohagen on February 3, 1968, and they were married on October 28, 1969, in Minneapolis. He was a retired employee of Northern States Power Co. / Xcel with 34 years of service. He also worked for the Department of Homeland Security and Transportation Security Administration for seven years. Gary was a member of Crosslake Lutheran Church where he served on the Church Council and the Personnel Committee. He enjoyed his retirement on Kimble Lake, located on a chain of lakes that he loved since he was a young child. Gary was a board member of the Kimble Lake Homeowners Association and the Kimble Lake Improvement District. He also served on the Ideal Scholarship Foundation. He and Barb enjoyed traveling, visiting 48 states, spending winters in Florida and most of all, he cherished being with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Gary’s faith was strong and it helped him so much during his end of life battle.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Barbara; son Jason Schwartz of Victoria, MN; daughter Tracy Hadtrath (Tom) of Big Lake, MN; brother Ken Schwartz (Marcy) of Anoka, MN; three grandchildren; and four great-grandsons.
Preceding him in death are his parents and grandparents.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday April 27, 2024 at 12:00pm at Crosslake Lutheran Church in Crosslake, MN. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Lunch will be served following the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Ideal Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 422, Pequot Lakes, MN 56472 or the American Cancer Society. Private burial will be at the Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN at a later date.
