Gary Schmidt

Gary P. Schmidt, age 63, of Baxter, passed away on Saturday, February 17 at St. Josephs Medical Center in Brainerd. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 21 at 2:00 PM at the Assembly of God Church in Staples, with Pastor Roy Miles officiating. Visitation will begin at the church at 12:00 and run until the start of service. Burial will be at the Motley Public Cemetery. Gary was born on August 25, 1943 at the Staples Hospital, to Arlo and Leona (Buchholz) Schmidt. He graduated from high school in Crookston, MN and from Vocational -Technical school in Staples. He worked as a machinist for 37 years, the last 20 of them at 3M in Staples. He married Dorothy Greenwaldt at the United Methodist Church in Staples on September 12, 1964 and they were blessed with two children. Gary enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Gary is survived by his wife of 42 years, Dorothy Dotof Baxter, MN; son, John D. Schmidt of Minneapolis, MN; daughter, Kelly M. Pendegayosh (Sheldon Boyd) of McGregor, MN; 3 grandchildren, Rodney Pendegayosh, Phillip Pendegayosh, and Sheldon Boyd Jr.; his mother Leona Schmidt of Staples, MN; 2 aunts, Winnie Schmidt of Staples, MN and Clara Schmidt of Pueblo, CO; as well as many cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Arlo.
