Gary Poynter

Gary Dennis Poynter passed away Monday, March 16, 2020 at the Staples hospital. A celebration of Gary’s life will be at a later date.

Gary was born on December 23, 1946 in Little Falls to parents, James and Hazel (Tinkham) Poynter. He grew up in Motley, MN with his eight siblings. Gary loved his family above all else and cherished his time with all of them. He felt that being a grandpa was his calling and it truly was. Gary’s friends and family have all been affected by his great musical abilities which were enhanced by his genuine love of music. He could often be found outdoors, whether he was gardening, simply enjoying the fresh air, or most likely on the hunt for Agates to add to his collection. Everyone who knew Gary has been swept up into his optimism and relentless sense of humor. He is loved and will be missed by many.

Gary is survived by his children, Garry Poynter of Staples, Dennis Poynter of Starbuck, Michelle Ferguson of Wadena, Jason Poynter of Motley, Teresa Poynter of Alexandria; siblings, Westley Poynter and Marvin Poynter; grandchildren, Megan (Cody) Tapio, Tyler Poynter, Dennis J. Poynter, Katie Ferguson, Maisie Poynter, Cody Ferguson, Karlee Poynter, Haley Poynter, Brody Shaw, Damien DeJarlais, Aristea Jones, Isabella Jones; great grandchildren, Jacob Woo, Bentley Quick, Alaina Tapio and Kennedi Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sharon Poynter, Dolores Gerdes, Wanda Cestnik; brothers, Darrel Poynter, Ronald (Eileen) Poynter.

Thank you to everyone who has visited Gary and to anybody who brought things or has helped his family during this difficult time.
