Gary Hermanson, 81, of Brainerd, formerly of Hastings, MN., passed away peacefully at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo North Dakota, after a long-term illness on May 5th, 2022. A Celebration of Gary’s life will be 1 pm on Friday, May 20th at Cross of Christ Church, Welch, Minnesota with visitation one hour prior to the service. A Celebration picnic will be held in Brainerd, MN at a later date.
Gary was born to Henry T. and Sylvia (Sagdalen) Hermanson on September 13, 1940 near Spring Grove, Minnesota. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 – 1962, in the 29th Transportation Company, in Germany, part of that time based on the Berlin Wall. He married Diane Franzen in Hawkeye, Iowa on December 26th, 1964. Gary worked as a mechanic / welder for K.W. McKee/Convoy and was a member of local 120 Teamsters.
Gary was a farmer at heart and loved being outdoors, spending time with his family, camping, watching NASCAR. and western movies, having campfires, playing poker and fishing. For the past 12 years Gary and Diane enjoyed spending the winter in their Mission, Texas home. Gary was always there whenever anyone needed him, and he will be missed by all who knew him.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Diane; daughters, Angela M. (David) Crowell, and Keri D. Hall. Proud grandfather of Joshua D. Crowell, Harlow L. Crowell, Dillon J. Crowell, Emily A. Crowell, Blaine J. Hall, Nicholaus D. Kelm; great grandchildren, Harper A. Nesbitt, Raiden V. Crowell; siblings, Arlene Westrud, Dianne Peterson, Loretta Holland, Jean Blagdsvedt; brothers and sisters-in-laws; many nieces and nephews. Gary was predeceased by his parents; siblings, Erling, Ronald, Cheryl and Jeanette; brothers and sisters-in-law and Diane’s parents.
Gary will be fondly remembered as a loving husband and father, great craftsman and a proud veteran. Although he left his wife and daughters behind, he will forever be in their hearts and minds and will be greatly missed for the great man he was, someone who can never be replaced.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Baxter.
