Gary Lee Hall, age 56, of Crosslake, MN, and formerly of Plymouth, MN, died Friday evening at his home, following several months in hospice care. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Eileen (Ervasti) Hall. His love, caring personality and sense of humor is deeply missed by his wife of 36 years, Cheryl (Diekman) and his daughter Kimmie. He is survived by brothers Dennis of Barrington, NJ, and Donald (Renee) of Long Island, NY, father in-law and mother in-law Curtis and Norma Diekman of Shell Lake, WI, uncles Marlyn Ervasti (Ruth) of Rogers, MN and Wesley Ervasti of Sebeka, MN, aunts Lempi Ervasti and Florence Costello (Edward) of Chicago, IL, and Lynn Jaffe of Cape Canaveral, FL, as well as several close cousins, friends, and in-laws.
Gary graduated in 1966 from Vocational High School, Minneapolis, and he graduated from Dunwoody Industrial Institute in the 1969 Air Conditioning class. He was a registered Mechanical Designer, State of Wisconsin, and a nationally certified ICET Engineering Technician. Gary served as a medic in the United States Army Reserves from 1967 to 1973.
In 1978, Gary founded Mechanical Systems Design (MSD), a building-related mechanical systems engineering firm. Partners Mark Hartman joined the firm in 1979 and Bob Fischer joined in 1992. The firm has offices in Minneapolis and St. Paul and a staff of 13 professionals. Gary retired in 2002 with renewed faith in Jesus, and to enjoy many other interests: hunting, forest management, construction, art, music and literature.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, September 8, at the Kapala-Glodek-Malone Funeral Chapel, 7800 Bass Lake Road, New Hope, MN. Friends may call Tuesday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Funeral Home and also for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Private interment. Memorials may be directed to the Bible League.
