Fredrick J. Horschel age 73, of Staples, passed away at St. Michael's Hospital in Sauk Centre on Thursday, April 13, 2011. A memorial service is planned for Monday, April 18, at 11:00 AM, at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Wadena. Family and friends are invited to gather one hour prior to the service.
Fred was born December 3, 1937 in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Harold and Ruth (Goody) Horschel. He married Elaine Harrah on June 12,1965 in Fresno, California. Fred was a veteran of the United States Air Force, a retired Nazarene minister as well as owning his own band instrument repair shop. He also drove a school bus in Verndale and was Chaplain for the Bell Hill Recovery Center and was active in his churches.
Fred's hobbies included gardening and trains. He was a member of Wadena Community Band and enjoyed singing specials at various churches. He also participated in many volunteer missions.
He is preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Jon, and son-in-law, Brian Plopper.
Fred will be missed by his wife Elaine, three children, Julie Plopper of Staples, Minnesota, Debby (Steve) Kimball of Ocala, Florida, and Kevin (Bronwen) Horschel, of Copperas Cove, Texas, and seven grandchildren.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples.
