Frederick A. Moen, age 70, of Crosslake, died Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at Bethany Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd, from ALS (Lou Gehrig Disease). Funeral services will be Saturday, April 29, 11 am, at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake, with the Rev. Steven Anderson officiating. Friends may visit Friday, April 28, from 5-7 pm. Interment will be at Pinewood Cemetery in Crosslake, with military honors provided by the Crosslake American Legion, Post 500. Memorials in Fred's name are preferred to the ALS Association, 333 Washington Ave. N, #105, Mpls, MN 55401.
Fred was born April 18, 1936 in Minneapolis, to Millard and Sophia "Bonnie" Moen. He graduated from South High School and served three years in the Army. He graduated from the Minnesota School of Business. He was married to Jan Thompson; together they raised four children in Bloomington. He worked at the Donaldson Manufacturing Company in Bloomington and then at Corporate Risk Management Consultants. After his retirement, he and Sue Dillon, his beloved companion and best friend for 27 years, moved to Crosslake. They had a second home in Lake Havasu, AZ. Fred was a long-time member of the American Legion, Post 500.

Survivors include his companion, Sue; his former wife, Jan Moen; his children Daniel (Robin Lovo) Melby, Douglas Melby, Sherry Moen, and Lisa (Ken) Sweet; siblings Shirley Elavsky and Ronald (Cathy) Moen; sister-in-law Rita Moen; 14 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dale.
