Frederick Heier

Frederick George Heier, longtime member of the Staples community, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at the Lakewood Health System Care Center. He was 88 years of age. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00AM, Monday, October 19, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples, MN with Father Joe Korf officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation from 4:00-7:00PM, Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, MN, with rosary at 6:15PM and Prayer Service at 6:30PM. Interment will be at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples, MN. Military Honors provided by Wadena Post#3922.

Fred was born on November 24, 1926 in Staples, MN to Wenzel H. and Elizabeth Heier. He grew up and attended Sacred Heart Catholic School through the 8th grade. Fred served in the US Army during World War II in the Philippines. He also was a member of the Staples Fire Department for 38 years. On November 11, 1947, Fred married Marie Fahnlander in Staples. Together they ran Heier's Grocery Store on Wisconsin Ave. until their retirement in 1991. Fred was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Fred is survived by his two sons, Eugene Heier of Baxter and Michael (Linda) Heier of Staples; four grandchildren, Stephanie of Waconia, MN, Michele (Ron) Nichols of Concord, NC, Christopher (Anita) of Rothsay, MN, and Matthew (Sally) of Little Falls, MN; ten great grandchildren, Tanner, Alexis, Kinsey, Kendra, Tay, Kyce, Tyler, Jaya, Alyssa and Ady Jo. He is preceded in death by his wife, Marie; his parents; three infant sons; three brothers, Larry, Herbert and Bernard; six sisters, Elizabeth, Lucille, Kay, Helen, Dorothy and Rose. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, MN.
