Frederick Captain BudAlan Gaylord, II, 86, of Pequot Lakes, died Sunday, June 10, 2007 at the St. Josephs Medical Center in Brainerd. Funeral Services for Captain Budwill be 11 AM, Wednesday, June 13 at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Pequot Lakes. There will be a visitation one hour prior to services. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Nisswa.
Frederick was born January 23, 1921 at Olean, NY to Frederick and Marjoria (Van Campen-Fobes) Gaylord. The family moved a lot when Frederick was young before settling back in Olean, NY where he graduated from high school with honors. During school, Bud became entranced with flying. He moved to Berkley, CA where he attended the University of California and studied aeronautical engineering. Bud joined the Army Air Corps Ferrying Command at Long Beach, CA in January of 1942. During WWII, Bud lived in numerous locations in Asia and South Pacific. In May of 1946, he was placed on reserve status. Bud worked for a number of flying organizations in his career, including the US Navy although, he never joined the Navy. Bud was united in marriage to Jeanette Anderson in 1961. He moved his family to Libya in the early 1960s where he flew for NATO and the United Nations. He was also part of the Sahara Desert Search and Rescue Team. In 1972, the family moved to Nigeria where Bud flew money to various locations for Central Bank. Bud moved the family back to the United States in 1978 because of his wifes health concerns. They lived in the Gull Lake Area. Bud and his son, Pete then moved to the Breezy Point area where he worked for the Breezy Point Resort. He was captain of the Paddlin Pelican, a 57 foot boat the resort rented out for dinner and reception cruises. In 1996, Bud retired at the age of 75. Bud loved his adventurous life, traveling and flying.
Bud will be missed by his son, Pete (Holly) Gaylord, of Breezy Point. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette in 1978.
