Fred C. Borgwardt, 79, of the Brainerd Lakes area, formerly of Northfield, Minnesota passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2012.
Fred was born in Janesville, Wisconsin September 19, 1932. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin and the University of Minnesota Veterinary Medical School class of 1961. Fred was an Honor Roll Member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and also served as president of the Ethics Committee for the Minnesota Board of Veterinary Medicine for several years. With his wife Arline M. Borgwardt, Fred practiced large and small animal medicine in the Northfield area for over 30 years.
Fred loved woodworking, travel worldwide, gardening, the north woods and all things outdoors. He was also active in local politics and served 8 years as a Councilman in Northfield as well as on the Town Board and Church Council in Outing, Minnesota.
Fred was a devoted husband and family man. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Arline, son Charles (Kim), and daugters Ann (Risto) and Jean, as well as grandchildren Patrick (Crystal), Katrina, Tuomas, and Antero.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Dorothy Borgwardt of Milton, Wisconsin. The family will be holding a private memorial as per Fred's wishes.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
