Fred Fleisher

October 14, 1936 — March 9, 2021

Fred Eugene Fleisher, 84, of Staples passed away at his home on March 9, 2021. Fred had endured an extended hospital stay but, through the love of his family, was able to come home and spend his final days surrounded by the people he loved most.  Fred was born on Oct. 14, 1936 to Lester and Goldie (Farber) Fleisher.  He lived all of his life in Staples.  He worked as a carpenter for Odden Construction for many years.  After an accident involving the loss of his leg, Fred went to work for the Perham Golf Course where he worked until his retirement.   On June 19,  1958, Fred married Hazel Alice Rick.  She was the love of his life.  Their marriage was blessed with 4 children, 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. One of Fred’s greatest gifts to his family was teaching them the true meaning of love and being there for one another through the good and bad times in life.  He modeled that through the great love he had for his beloved wife, Hazel.  When Hazel took ill, Fred stood by her side spending every single day at the care center with her, modeling his great devotion for his beautiful wife.  Theirs was a love that never wavered; a love that now continues in their heavenly home.

Fred was an avid hunter; he taught many of his grandchildren how to hunt and was with them when they shot their first deer.  He liked to fish and play cards (especially 500 and Tic),  and was a big fan of the MN Twins and Vikings.  Fred was a wonderful father, amazing grandfather and great grandfather, a devoted husband, and a great brother and brother-in- law.  Family meant everything to him.  He was gentle, kind and generous.

Fred was loved by many and will be dearly missed.  He is survived by his 4 children: Michael (Kelly) Fleisher of Staples; Donna Hanson, Leader; Deb (Scott) Hart, Henning and Doreen (Alex) Kropuenske, Staples as well as 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his dear wife, Hazel, who he has been waiting to hold again for 7 ½ years; his parents; sister, Nita; son-in-law, Rick; and grandchildren Emmi Rose and Ryan.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 12 from 4:00 - 6:30 at the Motley Free Methodist Church, with a prayer service at 6:00.  Fred’s funeral will be held on Saturday, March 13 at 11:00 at the Free Methodist Church with visitation one hour prior at 10:00.  Interment will be at Esterday Cemetery. After the service at the cemetery, friends and family are invited back to the home of Fred Fleisher for a light lunch and to reminisce about the amazing life of our beloved Fred. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel-Staples.
