Franklin Selvey

Franklin Selvey, age 95, of Staples, passed away at the Lakewood Health System Care Center on Monday, November 1. Funeral services will be Friday November 5, at 1:00 PM at the Staples Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. Friends and relatives are invited to gather beginning at 11:00 AM at the Church. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery at Verndale.

Franklin was born on October 26, 1915, in Marionville, Missouri, the son of William and Eunice (Gray) Selvey. He graduated from high school in Del Norte, CO. After his schooling he came to Minnesota and met Sylvia in Cottonwood County. They were married on February 6, 1940, in Worthington, MN. Following their marriage he worked on a farm in the Mountain Lake area. In 1945 the family moved to the Bluegrass area and he worked for the Peterson Biddick Company in Wadena. A few years later they purchased a farm between Staples and Bertha and he continued to work in Wadena as well. Franklin was a man of great integrity, always finding the good in everyone. He was a diligent worker in the church and brought his family up to follow in his footsteps. While a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Staples he served as the Treasurer. He also was a volunteer driver for Todd County Social Services. In his younger years he enjoyed playing softball and later took up playing golf. He very much enjoyed being with his family and especially his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia in July of 2010; parents, William and Eunice; daughter, Deborah Race; and brothers, Keith and Myron. Franklin will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his children, Eunice (Bud) Bergquist of Verndale, MN, Ronald (Donna) Selvey of Staples, Franklin (Genie) Selvey of North Mankato, MN, and Naomi (Steve) Grow of Moorhead, MN; 15 grandchildren; and 30 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; siblings, John (Fern) Selvey, Cheyenne, WY, Harlan (Shirley) Selvey of Hollister, CA, and Margaret (Bob) Knight of Avondale, CO.
