Fawna Lewis

June 29, 1925 — August 27, 2016

After enjoying one last Bloody Mary and foot massage, Fawna Mae Lewis, 91, decided to call it a life. She slipped away peacefully at Golden Horizons Assisted Living in Crosslake on Saturday, August 27 2016. Fawna Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Viola Bowers, sister Gleneda Setterstrom, brother Cecil Bowers, husband, Ralph Lewis and son, John Lewis. The sun broke through the sky over her precious Pelican Lake as she was reunited with her husband, Ralph and son, John. She is survived by sons, Ralph, Jr. aka. Louie (Linda) Merrifield, MN, Jim (Tonya) Dodge City, KS, Rod (Sheila) Burnsville, MN, daughter, Sandi Lindquist (John) Eden Prairie, MN, and daughter-in-law, Karen Lewis, Topeka, KS. She also left 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. The number of non-related people that have called her Grandma over the years is just too numerous to mention.

Fawna Mae was born on June 29, 1925 in Oneida, Kansas. She met Ralph Lewis when she was 13 years old. Ralph totally out kicked his punt coverage when she agreed to marry him in 1945. Prior to marriage, Ralph had always promised Fawna's mother he would marry her someday and keep her ‘barefoot and pregnant'. They did raise 5 kids together, but her penchant for $200 shoes made him eat part of that statement.

Fawna left a legacy of love, handwritten cards, and doing God's work. She excelled like no other at gift giving, praying, hugging and getting all of Thanksgiving dinner on the table at the same time with only one oven and no dishwasher. Her cookies, pies and cakes were legendary. Just ask anyone who was a very grateful recipient and they would swear she was able to add a sprinkling of love and magic to them that no one can or will be able to replicate. She also singlehandedly kept Hallmark in business. She never forgot a birthday or anniversary and always sent the cards to prove it.

Fawna's greatest joy was her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. The phrase ‘if Mom and Dad say no, ask Grandma' was coined specifically for her. She derived tremendous pleasure out of spending Ralph's money lavishly on each and every one of them. Much to his dismay at times! She also taught them what it feels like to be the most special person in the world…because to her, they all were. She was also one of those rare women that her daughter in laws actually liked!

People from all ages and walks of life, near and far, have been touched by the love and laughter of Fawna Mae. Someone once said if they could see the bottom of her feet in Heaven, they would know they had made it far enough. She was an amazing mom, grandma, friend and confidante. She simply was the best of all of us.

The Lord's angels have a new member of their flock. The brightness she will bring to Heaven will rival the sun. God's load will surely be lightened as well since He will have His best creation ever to help Him out now.
