Evelyn Woode

April 5, 1918 — November 14, 2015

Evelyn Woode (nee Bina), of Brainerd, peacefully passed away Saturday, November 14, 2015, in the loving care of Good Samaritan Village - Bethany. A Funeral Service will be held at Good Samaritan Village - Bethany Chapel in Brainerd on Saturday, November 21 at 1:30 PM with interment at Greenwood Cemetery in Nisswa to follow. A Memorial Service is also being planned for spring of 2016.

Evelyn was born April 5, 1918, in Fargo, ND, the only child of James and Minnie (Olson) Bina. Throughout her youth, Evelyn lived with her parents in various cities within the United States but spent the majority of her time in Minneapolis, MN. She enjoyed many summers spent at the family cottage, "Bina Bode" on Gull Lake where she liked swimming, boating, and - as she got older - dancing at the Bar Harbor Dance Hall. Evelyn attended High School in Minneapolis and furthered her education at Secretarial School. She married Delbert Woode on August 10, 1946 at the Diamond Lake Lutheran Church. Evelyn and Delbert raised their daughters, Kathleen and Cheryl, in their home on Crystal, MN. She worked part time within the secretarial field. She enjoyed years of square dancing, sewing club, and playing cards with friends. Weekends were always spent at the lake. Evelyn helped Delbert build their cabin on Gull Lake. During their retirement years they lived at the Gull Lake Cabin. Evelyn enjoyed taking long walks in the woods and kept busy with a variety of crafts. She was a member of the Nisswa Women's Club and volunteered at a variety of functions. When she and Del left Gull Lake, they moved to Pine River where they enjoyed several years of golfing. After Del's passing on January 14, 2000, Evelyn moved to the Good Samaritan Village - Woodland Campus. Over the past 15 years, Evelyn was well cared for by the Good Samaritan Community.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, James and Minnie Bina and her loving husband of 53 years, Delbert Woode. She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Luker and Cheryl Wyant; five grandchildren, Matt (Marey), Morgan (Ruth), Kristin (Daniel), Kerrie, and Graeme (Janice); and 12 great-grandchildren.
