Eva Struthers

March 12, 1913 — July 18, 2005

Eva E. Struthers, age 92, of Brainerd, died Monday, July 18, 2005 at Bethany Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 30, at 11 am, at Park United Methodist Church, with Reverend Rory Swenson officiating. Friends may visit Friday, July 29, from 5-7 pm, at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter and at the church on Saturday during the hour prior to services. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
Eva Edrith Goochey was born March 12, 1913 in Guthrie Center, IA, to Charles and Effie (Dove) Goochey. She attended schools in Guthrie Center and Panora, IA. She worked at a telephone office in Panora before being united in marriage to Ernie Struthers on September 17, 1930. The couple moved to Freeburg, MO, where Ernie did road construction. They returned to Iowa and farmed until the depression came, when they moved to Exira, IA. Over the years, Eva?s family lived between Iowa and Minnesota, spending their last years in Brainerd. Eva worked in restaurants in Pine River and Brainerd, and as a seamstress for a garment factory and for JC Penney until her retirement in 1979. She volunteered at Kingwood Good Samaritan and RSVP, and crocheted many baby caps for St. Joseph?s Medical Center. An active member of Park United Methodist Church, Eva also belonged to the Rebekah Lodge and the Moose.

Eva will be sadly missed by her children, Norma Denniston, Galen (Karen) Struthers, and John Struthers, all of Baxter; siblings Maxine Gardner, IA, Jean Coffman, IA, Mary Anderson, IA, and Bob Goochey, Park Rapids; and 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren and daughter-in-law Marlys Struthers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie Stuthers, in 1972; a son, LaVerne Struthers, in 1996; a great-granddaughter, Tonya Struthers, in 2000; siblings Lucille Headlee, Wilma Burns, Earl Goochey, and Frank Goochey; a daughter-in-law, Kathryn Struthers, in 2003; and a son-in-law, James Denniston, in 1980.
