Eva Barbara (Lugert) Reither, of Staples, passed away on November 17, 2023, at 105 ½ years of age.
Eva was born 3lbs, on a farm in Mantador, North Dakota. Her mom put her in a shoebox lined with cotton and put her in the oven to keep warm – No incubators back then. Later in life her husband said, “I knew you were only half baked”!
Eva held numerous jobs in her lifetime. She spoke kindly of her cute uniform and years as an elevator operator for a large company in Duluth.
She lived in many states but always seemed to return to Staples, MN. She could be known as being a one-woman city beautification icon as she bought, renovated, and restored many homes around town.
She was a fiesty lady but always willing to help anyone. She was a very good businesswoman. Her passing will leave a hole in the heart of all those who loved her.
She is preceded in death by her husband Emil; her parents, Carl and Gertrude Lugert; brother James Lugert; and son Roy Gustafson Jr.
Eva requested no service and will be laid to rest in the Bennettville Cemetery.
Thank you to the care from the Hospice Team at her home, and recently at the care center. She loved you all!
A beautiful sunrise on the morning Eva died.
Red sky in the morning-
Sailor’s warning
Lord- Eva’s coming home.
Arrangements have been entrusted with the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Staples.
