Eugene Resch

Eugene Robert Resch, age 89, of Staples passed away peacefully at home, with his family by his side, on Friday, November 17, 2017. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Eugene on Wednesday, November 22, beginning at 11 am, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples. Friends may visit on Tuesday, November 21, from 4-7 pm, with a prayer service at 5:00, at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples. Visitation will continue at the church on Wednesday, during the hour prior to Mass.

Eugene was born in Milford, Iowa on February 15, 1928, to John and Mary (Tinkham) Resch. He grew up on the family farm, and was drafted into the US Army during WW2. He was married to Eileen Gaffke and, over time, the couple was blessed with eight children. Gene and Eileen worked together at their flooring business, Resch Tile and Carpet. Eugene was later married to Judy Lamkin; they enjoyed 34 years together. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He also belonged to the American Legion in Wadena. During their years together, Eugene and Judy enjoyed traveling and entertaining. Eugene was especially known for the delicious Tom and Jerry’s he made during the holidays. He was a dedicated and hard-working man, who usually enjoyed a Pepsi and a Snickers bar for lunch. He liked watching westerns on TV, and he and Judy enjoyed dancing. His family, including his dog, Roady, will miss him dearly.

Eugene will always be remembered by his family: his loving wife Judy; his children, Marcy (Cliff) Cederholm of Baudette, Jim Resch of Brainerd, Yolanda (Mike) Koppes of Staples, Melissa Shriver of Staples, Carla Kuchinski of Staples, and Christine (Todd) Tollefson of Staples; 17 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dale (Nancy) Resch of Fish Trap Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Leroy; a daughter, Patty; two sons, Robert and Daniel; a grandchild, Cindy Cederholm; a sister, Gen Ludovissie; and three brothers, Clarence, Tony, and Jerome Resch.
