Eugene Coffel

Eugene R. Coffel, 80, of Pequot Lakes, MN, died Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at Essentia Health - St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Crosslake, MN with Father Ryan Moravitz officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather one hour prior to services. Interment with Military Honors provided from the Pequot Lakes American Legion, Post 49, will take place at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Camp Ripley, MN. Memorials are preferred.

Eugene was born April 14, 1931, in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Clarence M. and Catherine B. (McGuire) Coffel. Following high school, Eugene served in the US Air Force. On June 25, 1955, he was united in marriage to Deloris Mickelson at March Air Force Base in California. The couple made their home in Columbia Heights, MN, where for over 30 years Eugene worked as a welder for Butler Manufacturing. They retired to the Pequot Lakes area in 1989. He was a member of the Pequot Lakes American Legion, Post # 49. Eugene enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. He also was fond of making wine.

He will be missed by his wife, Deloris; his children, Christy Lou (Roger) Heidelberger, of Merrifield and Daniel (Kathy) Coffel, of Ideal Township; sister, Sr. Clarinda Coffel, OSB, of Columbia Heights; brother, Jerome (Hallet) Coffel, of Plymouth; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Gerald; and sister, Sr. Alexandra, OSB.
