Ethelyn Carder

Ethelyn "Lynn" Mary (Falk) Carder, 89, of Brainerd, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Woodland Good Samaritan Village, Brainerd, MN. Ethelyn was born September 4, 1925, in Birchlake Township, Hackensack, MN the daughter of Arthur A. and Iola (Kearns) Falk. After graduating high school, Ethelyn (Lynn) continued her education in Business School in Minneapolis and in healthcare. She married Richard Carder in 1949 in Hackensack, MN, where they also farmed. They moved to the Brainerd area in 1960 where Lynn continued working in healthcare at the Brainerd State Hospital and then at Lake Region Clinic for 19 years. After working many years at Lake Region Clinic, she returned to the classroom to earn her LPN license at age 50. Lynn was a faithful and loving wife and wonderful mother and grandmother. She enjoyed being active at church as a choir member, member of the Deacons and enjoyed the company and service projects of the Presbyterian Women's Association. Her family and friends will remember her hospitality, her love for baking bread and her endless supply of cookies and sweets. After retirement, Lynn and Dick spent winters participating in projects such as "Volunteer in Mission" in Sitka, Alaska; Menaul School in Albuquerque, NM; Campbell Farm in Yakima, WA.; Wycliffe in Dallas, TX; Pearson Elementary School in Mission, TX; Senior Center volunteer in Mission, TX. They enjoyed 20 years as "winter Texans" and warmly enjoyed their Texas community friends. The family wishes to thank the caring, attentive staff at Diamond Willow Assisted Living and Woodland Good Samaritan Village along with St. Croix Hospice caregivers and staff. She is survived by her husband, Richard; children: Coleen (Ann Turnbull) Carder and Steven (Karen) Carder of Brainerd, MN, Roxanne (Robert) Lueck of Clarksville, TN, and Brian (Carol) Carder of Holland, MI; and grandchildren: Kim (Don) Hall with child Zach of Clarksville, TN, Kate (Steve) Carter with child Garrison of Denver, CO, Kristin Lueck of Minneapolis, MN, Eric Carder of Breezy Point, MN, Neil Carder of Burnsville, MN, and Dmitri and Cecily Carder of Holland, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, John and Carl. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Brainerd. Family and friends are welcome to gather one hour prior to services and stay for lunch. Interment will be at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Nokay Lake Township, Brainerd, MN. Memorials contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Missions Committee, Brainerd, MN.
