Ervin Hines

Ervin S. Hines, age 74, of Pillager, died early Thursday morning at his home in rural Pillager. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter with Father Seamus Walsh and Chaplin Ricky Abear officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 until 7:00 PM Friday at the Brenny Funeral Chapel and for one hour prior to services on Saturday. Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery at Pillager with military honors provided by the Brainerd American Legion Post #255. A lunch will be served at the First Lutheran Church in Pillager following the burial.
Ervin was born on May 6, 1930, in Brainerd, MN, the son of Jefferson and Margaret (Carner) Hines. He grew up and attended school in the Brainerd area. After his schooling he worked in a sawmill and operating heavy equipment. On Feb. 16, 1951 he was united in marriage to Margaret Berg. To this union 8 children were born. Erv and Margaret were able to share over 54 years of marriage together.

In 1952 Erv was inducted into the United States Marine Corp. and was stationed in Barstow, CA. Upon returning to Minnesota the couple settled in Waseca where he worked for Hearder Co. From there the family moved to the Brainerd area for a while, then to Tacoma, Washington, where he worked for Lay Rite company driving a forklift in a cement block plant. In the early 1960?s the family returned to the Pillager area where he worked for Hengel Contruction and then for Rardon Construction, retiring in Nov. 2003. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and listening to ?Bluegrass? music.

Erv was preceded in death by his father, Jefferson; a brother, Clarence; and two infant children, Ronald and Dean. He is mourned in passing by his wife, Margaret of Pillager; children, Darlene (Norbert) Cronin of Nisswa, Bonnie Abear of Baxter, Lorna Hines of Pillager, Diane Kelley of Pilliger, Darrel Hines of Pine River, and Roy (Leanne) Hines of Brainerd; grandchildren, Dennis Cronin , Steve (Dorothy) Cronin, Rick (Kristina) Abear, Matt Siegel, Brandon Hines, Dustin Hines, Amanda Hines, and Jessie (Steve) Mudget; his mother, Margaret Hines of the Bethany Good Samarathan Care Center; and sisters, Ruth Smith of Brainerd, Betty Berg of Brainerd, Evelyn Ruhl of Nisswa, Shirley Hines of Brainerd, Annabelle Loftis and Bertha Anderson both of Nisswa
