Ernestine Johnson

September 26, 1925 — January 30, 2015

Ernestine Johnson, 89, of Cushing, MN passed into the arms of her loving Lord on Friday, January 30, 2015 at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN. Funeral services for Ernestine will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Motley, MN, with the Reverend Paul E. Koehler officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation from 5:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, MN and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Long Prairie, MN.

Ernestine was born September 26, 1925 to Gustave and Augusta (Fortman) Marshall in Long Prairie, MN. Ernestine was united in marriage to Erling David Johnson on February 25, 1947 in Long Prairie and they made their home on the farm near Cushing, MN. She trained in nursing in Staples, worked for Larson Boatworks in Little Falls for a time and cared for disabled veterans at the VA in St. Cloud, MN from 1975 until retiring in 1985. Ernestine enjoyed singing, gardening, watching wildlife, reading, family history, following sports, especially the Minnesota Twins, and staying in touch with her family. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church LCMS.

Ernestine is lovingly remembered by her children, Joyce (Al) Schlinger of Aitkin, MN, Lois Baker of Mounds View, MN, Bruce (Karen) Johnson of St. Anthony, MN, Curtis (Vicki) Johnson of Bellevue, NE, Glen Johnson of Staples, MN, Sara (Paul) Parthun of Becida, MN; daughter in law, Karen Johnson of Bayport, MN; grandchildren, Melissa Johnson, Charles Brown, Laurie Brown, Jessie Tech, Matthew Johnson, Daniel Johnson, Heather Ruppert, Christopher Johnson, Melinda Johnson, Devin Johnson, Kate Parthun, Wyatt Parthun; great grandchildren, Charese Brown, Kaiden McCormick, Taegan McCormick, Isabella McCormick, and Deklen Johnson. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gustave Jr., and son, Dennis Erling Johnson in 2002. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, MN.
