Ernest P. Svenvold, age 90, of Pillager, died Sunday, July 24, 2005 at St. Joseph?s Medical Center in Brainerd. Memorial services will be Friday, July 29, at 2 pm, at First Baptist Church in Pillager, with Reverend Bob Osell officiating. Interment will be at Wildwood Cemetery in Pillager.
Ernest Paul Svenvold was born January 3, 1915, on the family homestead in Bloomfield, Montana, to Roy and Sandra (Waag) Svenvold. He was a welder for the Northern Pacific Railroad for many years, working all over their lines. He was married to Maisel Svenvold, the mother of his son. Following retirement in 1975 he lived in his mother?s home in Glendive, Montana, where he enjoyed walking to Hardees for coffee and visiting with his friends. A lover of camping and fishing, Ernest had lived near Mille Lacs Lake for many years after retirement. Following his marriage to Dorothy (Haaker) Simons in 1989, the couple moved to their home near Pillager. Ernest enjoyed yardwork, vegetable gardening, and playing cribbage. His lab mix, Shadow, was his constant companion. He attended First Baptist Church in Pillager, and was a member of the Minnesota Senior Federation, N.A.R.V.E., and Burlington Northern Vets.
Ernest is survived by Dorothy, his loving wife of 16 years; son Paul (Gwendolyn) Svenvold, Maple Grove; stepdaughters Suzanne (Scott Miller) Simons, Pillager, Sarah (Jim) Wickstrom, Rockford, and Samantha Simons, Rockford; great-grandson, Jacxon Simons, Rockford; sister-in-law Maxine Svenvold, Glendive, MT; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Patricia (Roger) Schmieg, Shakopee; special niece Karen Svenvold, Spokane, WA; special nephews David and Doug Svenvold, who farm the family homestead in Bloomfield, MT; and several other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Ronald, Harold, and Donald Svenvold.
