Erland T. Coil, 84, of Crosby, died at Regions Hospital in St. Paul on Tuesday, August 20, 2013. Memorial service to be held at 2pm, September 28th at United Lutheran Church, Lake Lillian, MN. Internment in the Lake Lillian cemetery will immediately follow.
Erland was born February 11, 1929, in Willmar, MN, the son of Ira T. and Mary (Peterson) Coil. After high school, Erland continued his education and worked for Northern States Power Company as an electrician for 40 years. In 1952, Erland enlisted in the US Navy and served for three years during the Korean conflict. Erland married Shirley Starch in 1956 and raised their family in Minnetonka, MN. Upon retirement, he was very active in the Outing community. He loved hunting, fishing, golf, and traveling. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Outing, MN. He also belonged to the Lions Club. He was willing to chat with anyone and enjoyed a special peace when he took the boat out on the lake at sunset.
He will be missed by his children, Gary (Rachel) Coil, of Seattle, WA and Bruce (Jenny) Coil, of Burnsville, MN; sister, Althea Brant, of Wilmar, MN; grandchildren, Melanie, Jacob, and Brandon; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Shirley; parents; and brothers, Marvin, Clytus, and Horace.
