Emil ?Gene? Nelson, 73, of Crosslake, died Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at St. Joseph?s Medical Center in Brainerd after a long battle with cancer. Gene was born February 3, 1931 in Dodgeville, WI son of Oscar and Gayle (Richardson) Nelson. He was a graduate of Macalaster College and worked for many years as a buyer for both Donaldson?s and Dayton?s. Gene also worked as a traveling salesman and owned his own business from Nelson Fabrics in Brainerd to MGN Window Coverings in Des Moines, IA. They moved to the Crosslake area where they attended the Log Church. He loved and enjoyed his grandchildren and family. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, boating, yard work, gardening and flowers.
Gene is survived by wife Felicia (Ann) Nelson, of 50 years; son, Bennett E. (Connie) Nelson; daughters, Lori (Mike) Webster; Sandra (Mike) Kamnikar, Susan (Dave) Johnson, Jennifer (Zack) Pelletier;13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; brothers, A. Leon (Lois) Nelson, Kenneth (Janet) Nelson and sister Dorothy (Stanley) Lundberg; stepmother Eleanor Nelson and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Gayle Nelson of Dodgeville, WI and sister Margaret Nelson of Minneapolis.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 7, 2004, at the Crosslake Evangelical Free (Log) Church with Reverend Shawn McAlpine officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in the Pinewood Cemetery in Crosslake. Memorials are preferred. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake.
