Emil Hafner, 93, of Backus, died Sunday, March 31, 2013 in Pequot Lakes, MN. Services will be held at 9:00 AM, Saturday, April 13 at St. Louis Catholic Church (506 Cedar Street - St. Paul) with a visitation Friday evening from 5-7 PM at O'Halloran and Murphy Funeral Home (575 South Snelling Ave - St. Paul). Private Family Interment. Memorials are preferred to charity of donor's choice.
Emil was born in St. Paul the son of Emil and Ameila Hafner. Following high school, Emil served in the US Army during WWII. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Fiesel in 1942. Emil was a printer for West Publishing until his retirement. The couple vacationed and summered at Ponto Lake where Emil retired following Dorothy's death. Emil liked woodworking, cooking and gardening. He also enjoyed bird watching and was an avid reader. Emil's family was important to him; they often got together for support, tears, laughter and hugs.
He will be missed by his children, Barbara (Bob Noskowiak) Melville, of St. Augusta, Michael (Stacie) Hafner, of Maplewood, Thomas (Susan) Hafner, of Prescott, AZ, Debbie (Jim) Veitch, of Stillwater, Sue (Bob) Premo, of St. Paul, and Joan (Tony) Elumba, of West St. Paul; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; parents; brother, Daniel; and son-in-law, Bill Melville.
