Elwyn Hendricks

Elwyn J. Hendricks, 88, of Brainerd died on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Edgewood Vista in Brainerd. Joyce, his beloved wife of 69 years, passed away at Good Samaritan Society-Bethany in Brainerd later on the same day. Their Celebration of Life will be Tuesday, February 6, at 2 PM, at Edgewood Vista, with Pastor Jim Rogers officiating.

Elwyn and Joyce married in 1948 and began a 70-year journey. Together they produced 6 children, 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Over the years Elwyn was a farmer, worked at the railroad shops and the former Potlatch paper mill. Joyce was a nurse’s aide at the Brainerd hospital and then the former State School and Hospital. She later returned to school and obtained her LPN degree and was employed at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

They shared exciting hobbies such as showing horses, international sled dog racing, and raising gold fish.

They retired to Florida in 1991 and enjoyed traveling. After 20 years in Florida, they returned to Brainerd, MN. Their greatest joy in life was sharing quality time with their family and many good friends and their active church community.

In 2012, they moved into Edgewood Vista after experiencing serious health issues and found a new family of friends. The staff and residents have given them untold hours of joy, support and kindness. They asked that this celebration of life be a tribute to the family and friends they have met here at Edgewood. They are looking forward to seeing you all at happy hour in heaven!
