Baxter

Elva Rose Schack passed away on April 10, 2025. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 26, at 11 AM, at the First Baptist Church in Baxter, Minnesota. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Brenny Family Funeral Chapel of Baxter is in charge of arrangements.

Elva Rose Danson was born on January 2, 1932, to Glenn and Mildred (Fry) Danson in their farmhouse southeast of Grand Rapids, Minnesota. She was later joined by a brother, Bill, and a sister, Doris.

Elva attended country schools and graduated from Grand Rapids High School. She attended Northwestern College in Minneapolis for two years, studying Christian Education. Tuition was $100 per semester. She spent her college summers teaching Vacation Bible Schools and Backyard Bible Clubs for children.

In 1952 Elva married her high school sweetheart, Robert Schack, while he was serving in the United States Marine Corps. Their oldest child, Glenn, was born while they were stationed with the military in Key West, Florida. Four years later their family was complete, as Glenn was followed in rapid succession by Patricia, Barbara, Donna, and Brian.

Elva and Bob lived in the Twin Cities, then moved north to Crosby, and Deerwood, Minnesota where Elva worked with Bob in the Red Owl grocery store they owned. In 1965 they moved to a country home near Nisswa, Minnesota. Elva owned and operated a Knit Shop from her home, where she sold knitting machines, yarn, and gave knitting classes. Her family and friends loved seeing and wearing her knitted creations. Elva was also a quilter and sewed quilts for her children and grandchildren. She was a Master Gardener and loved growing and arranging flowers and sharing them with others.

At the age of eleven, Elva accepted Jesus as her personal savior, and her life centered around her faith. Elva and Bob attended various churches over the years. She taught children’s church and other children’s ministries and led women’s Bible studies. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Baxter, Minnesota. Over 30 years ago she wrote to her grandchildren, “I am thankful for God’s faithfulness and the peace He gives me in my life. It is a great blessing that we can go to Him at any time with our needs as well as our praises.”

Bob and Elva loved traveling with their camper, and after retirement they spent winters in Benson, Arizona. In 2020, due to Elva’s failing health, they moved to Northern Lakes Assisted Living in Baxter, Minnesota, where Elva passed away on April 10, 2025. She and Bob had been married nearly 73 years.

Elva is survived by her husband, Bob, her children, Glenn and Rosalie Schack of Owatonna, Minnesota, Patty and Darell Kapptie of Billings, Montana, Barb Krzak-Smith and Dennis Smith of Hayward, Wisconsin, Donna Lundgren of Upsala, Minnesota, and Brian and Debbie Schack of Junction City, Oregon, 13 grandchildren, and 41 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Bill and Irene Danson of Fredricksburg, Virginia, and sister Doris and Dan Roettger of White Bear Lake, Minnesota. Elva was preceded in death by her parents, and her son-in-law, Paul Lundgren.
