On June 4th, Elsie Elaine Melby went to be with her Lord and Savior, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. A private family service will take place on June 12, 2020. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Family Funeral Chapel
Elsie was born November 21st, 1932 to Sidney and Cora Hillman in Bismarck, North Dakota. She married the love of her life, Jerome “Joe” John Melby in 1950. They raised three daughters and she worked at the Baxter School in the reading lab for 24 years. Joe and Elsie spent their retired years traveling across the United States, and visiting all 50 states along their journey. The couple made many memories fishing at their cabin in Canada. They enjoyed square dancing, volunteering at the Senior Center, Bethany Nursing Home, and Lord of Life Lutheran Church. In 2008, they were awarded Crow Wing County Senior Citizen of The Year Award. Elsie loved sewing, quilting, gardening, and watching the grandchildren’s activities. The family was the center of her being.
Elsie is survived by her daughters; Debra (Wallace) Larson, Kimberly (Michael) Melby Tollefson, and Kari (Dale) Koester; sisters, Jean Segler, Emily (Jim) Thompson; brother, Dean Hillman; six grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. She is proceeded in death by her husband, Joe; parents, Sidney and Cora; brother Bill; and sister Alice.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date. Memorials will be donated in Elsie’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association. Memorials may be sent to: Kari Koester, PO BOX 7456, St. Cloud MN 56302-7456
