Elsie Kmetz

Elsie V. Kmetz, age 86, of Motley, passed away at the Fair Oaks Lodge in Wadena on Thursday, November 13, 2008. Funeral services are planned for Monday, November 17 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Staples, with Rev Robin Collins officiating. Friends may gather one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Motley Public Cemetery in Staples. Elsie V. Kmetz was born August 5, 1922, in Orr, MN, to Otto and Mary Vertainen. She graduated from Central High School in Duluth, MN, in 1940. She worked at Western Electric, Duluth, till they transferred to St. Paul. She held a job at the St. Board of Medical Examiners in St. Paul. She also held a Civil Service job at Washington, DC. In Oct. 1965, she married Michael Kmetz at Duluth. They lived at Motley for 34 years and Mike was Track Supv. For the Burlington Northern Railroad. They moved to the high rise Nov. 27, 1994. In 2007, Elsie moved to the Harmony House in Motley. She is survived by a; stepchildren, Ray (Emily) Kmetz of Minneapolis, Vernon Kmetz of Minneapolis, Geri Sanz of St. Paul, Deloris (Clarence) Juhnke of Ft Ransom, ND, Betty (Larry) Killian of Staples, and Marivin (Nancy) Kmetz of St. Michael; 20 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; one aunt, Helen Carlson of Orr, MN and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike; parents, step-father, 2 aunts, 8 uncles, and many cousins.
