Elmer Cromwell Goble, age 88, of Staples died Friday, August 17, 2007, at Fair Oaks Lodge in Wadena. Funeral Service will be Monday August 27, 2007 at 10:30 am in the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Staples with Pastor Paul Johnson officiating. Family will receive friends Sunday evening August 26, from 5-7 at the Brenny Funeral Home of Staples. Interment will be in Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Brenny Funeral Home of Staples. Elmer Crowell Goble was born May 16, 1919, in Thomastown Township, Wadena Co. MN the son of William and Ella (Maxwell) Goble. He grew up on the family farm near Staples and after his schooling he enlisted in the United States Army on October 19, 1942. While serving his country he worked as a mess attendant, and engine mechanic on several types of military aircraft. He also received the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon and the American Victory Medal before his discharge on December 8, 1945. On October 24, 1941, he was united in marriage to Marie Matilda Bostrom in Wadena, MN. To this union 3 children, Nancy, Eugene, and Arlene were born. After serving his country he returned to Staples where he farmed for many years. Following that he drove school bus for the Staples school district, owned and operated a trucking company, hauling cattle to South Saint Paul and bringing freight back, worked for Tri-County Livestock and helped area farmers. He was a member of the Staples Alliance Church where he was often the first one through the door to make sure everything was in good order for Services. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ella. Elmer is mourned in passing by his loving wife of 65 years, Marie; children, Nancy (Melcolm) Campbell of Staples, Eugene (Carol) Goble of Ortley, SD, and Arlene Goble of Staples; 10 grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren.
